Biography
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, he was born in Milan, Ohio. Edison invented the light bulb in1879. He was the seventh child of Samuel and Nancy Edison. Edison left his family and went off by himself at the age of only 16. He only went to school for a few month and his mother would teach him reading, writing and arithmetic. His first patent was an electric vote recorder, on October 28, 1868. In 1887 he invented the phonograph and that made him more popular. People before Edison had invented the light bulb, but Edison made one that actually would work. In 1879, he invented the light bulb which was an electric lamp with a heated filimant. Thomas Edison finally past away on October 18, 1931 after inventing many inventions. Life in the nineteenth century would be different if Thomas Edison didn't invent the light bulb. It would be different because without it people would be walking around with candles which can start fires. Light bulbs are way more afficiant then candles becasue candles can blow out in the wind and light bubls can't. Also light bulbs have a longer life then candles. Also, without it there wouldn't have been a need for anyone to invent things like flashlights because the light bulb would not have been invented. Some facts that you may not know about Thomas Edison are that he saved a stationmaster's son from being hit by a train, and out of gratitude he taught Edison how to use the telegraph. Edison patented over 1,000 inventions. In world War 1 Edison worked for the navy improving submarines and flamethrowers. Did you know that Thomas Edison was partially deaf? He built a science laboratory when he was only ten years old, he built it in his basement. Edison was know for this famous phrase, ‘Genius is one percent inspiration, 99 percent perspiration’. That is why i think that Thomas Edison was the greatest inventor of the 19th century.
